Weed Control in Your Lawn

Besides being unsightly, weeds are often a symptom that there are other problems that may be having an effect on your lawn. A thick, healthy lawn usually prevents weed seeds from germinating. A thinning lawn allows sunlight to reach the soil which makes it possible for weed seeds to germinate. The question is: Why is the turfgrass thinning?

Several things that we will look at include:

  • Soil testing to determine deficiencies in the makeup of your soil
  • Soil compaction may require aeration or adding additional organic matter
  • Imbalance in the soil's pH level may require adding lime
  • Poor nutrient levels and micronutrients requires putting the lawn on a regular fertilization schedule to keep the soil's nutrients at optimum growing levels
  • Poor drainage may be compacting soil and additional landscaping may be required to change this condition

Common Oklahoma lawn weeds

When we do find weeds in the lawn, we'll take steps to make sure they don't spread, and, depending on the type of weed, begin the process of controlling the weeds. Some grassy weeds are best controlled in the early spring. Other weeds such as broadleafed-weeds can be controlled anytime they are actively growing.
